About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at the London Stadium, West Ham United and Manchester City played out a 1-1 draw. The result was somewhat unexpected given Manchester City's status as title contenders, but West Ham's resilience and tactical discipline earned them a valuable point. The match began with Manchester City asserting their dominance, and it was Bernardo Silva (GAP +4.2%) who opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Silva's goal was a testament to his technical prowess and ability to find space in tight areas. However, West Ham responded swiftly, with Konstantinos Mavropanos (GAP -2.4%) equalizing just four minutes later. Mavropanos, typically known for his defensive duties, capitalized on a set-piece opportunity to level the score. Both teams made strategic changes to their lineups compared to their previous matches. West Ham United's manager made two changes, bringing in Konstantinos Mavropanos and Pablo Jesus, while Callum Wilson and Crysencio Summerville were left out. Manchester City made three changes, with Omar Marmoush, Abduqodir Khusanov, and Nico O'Reilly coming into the starting eleven, replacing Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, and Rayan Cherki. These adjustments were likely influenced by a combination of tactical considerations and player fitness. Gianluigi Donnarumma (GAP +5.2%) was instrumental for Manchester City, making several crucial saves to deny West Ham a second goal. His performance between the sticks ensured that City left with a point. On the other hand, Erling Haaland (GAP +4.6%) was closely marked by West Ham's defense, limiting his impact on the game. The draw leaves Manchester City in a challenging position as they aim to close the gap at the top of the table. For West Ham, the point gained is crucial in their quest to secure a mid-table finish, providing a confidence boost as they head into the final stretch of the season. Post-match reactions highlighted the competitive nature of the game, with both managers acknowledging the effort and quality displayed by their teams. The result reflects West Ham's ability to compete against top-tier opposition, while Manchester City will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming fixtures to maintain their title challenge.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
